Matt Alter is a Charlotte-area singer, songwriter, and guitarist whose music blends alternative hard rock, post-grunge grit, and a pop-rock sensibility. His songs pair driving guitars and melodic hooks with candid lyrics about relationships, frustration, isolation, and self-discovery.

After years performing in original and cover bands throughout Richmond, Virginia—including appearances opening for nationally touring acts—Matt developed a catalog spanning four albums: The Bitter Pill (2020), Race to the Finish (2021), Did I Offend You? (2023), and I’m Lonely…It’s My Fault (2026). His collaboration with producer and guitarist Tavis Stanley of Art of Dying has helped shape his sound, balancing guitar-driven intensity with accessible melodies.

Now, Matt Alter and The Misunderstood brings that catalog to the stage. The newly band features experienced musicians delivering an energetic live set built around original songs, including “Empty Cans,” “Tossed Away,” and “Train to Nowhere.” Combining the weight of hard rock with the immediacy of pop-rock songwriting, the band is available for opening slots, club shows, festivals, and regional performances.
